Artist's Comments

this is just a different veiw of the same dragon sculpture. hope you like it!

This guy weighs alot, made out of stoneware clay. CLAY!! meaning its not the actual mask but the sculpture that i'll use to make a mold to pour latex into (latex being the mask). he's 22 inches tall and is going to be made into a latex mask. the eye holes are in the neck because his head is supposed to rest on top of yours. not a finished work as i have yet to make a plaster cast/mold and pour the latex into the mold to make the mask. once the mold is done i can pop out as many of these puppies as i want!

EDIT:
MOLD IS DONE YOSH! the plaster is on the sculpture and on monday i'll carve out the clay leaving a plaster cast/mold to use to make masks!

YET ANOTHER EDIT:
i can't believe how many people like this guy! it makes me so happy! this is my first full head mask and first attempt at ever sculpting a dragon so i'm just blown away! thank-you all so much for your support!

YET ANOTHER ANOTHER EDIT!:
i made the cast/mold of the sculpture like a week ago. i had to do it in 2 parts, the top of the head was one, then the bottom of the head and neck was the second. once i cleaned out the mold i had to fill in the cracks, little flaws and push the two peices together. i stripped a tire and used the rubber to tie the parts tightly together then pmixed up the latex. (L-200 and #64 filler). Finally i poured that in and waited a little bit for it to "dry" along the edges of the plaster. next i poured out the excess latex, and waited a day. Today, march 2, i pulled out the latex mask, the actual latex mask!

HOLY CRAP! wow...thats some pretty amazing work right there! :worship: I love the scales and just the overall detail of the head. Its practically alive! You have a great deal of talent as a sculptor from what i can see. Keep up the very very VERY good work! This is definitly a fave.

Wow. This is fantastic. If your sculpting is this refined already I can't wait to see what you will be creating in a few more years!

A finished, custom painted/furred, latex shell mask in this level of skill will easily go for $100-$500.

WOW! This is amazing! I would definately want one!

Price wise is your choice. IMO I'd sell your pre-made ones based on suppliles, and how long it took to paint them. Personally I do commissions at $10 per hour. The custom ones, if it were me, would also be based per hour. You could easily make $45 per pre-made mask and even more for customs. Of course, this is my opinion only. I'm sure you could sell them for even more than that if you really wanted to.

Most likely, if people don't realize how much effort you put into this, people will want to pay about $30-$40... but that's just my guess.

hmmm... well this is over like 4 weeks of non-continous effort, i thought it was really fun and i'm suprised at the high price estimate you have given me (its really a confidence boost!)

well, I can easily see that you put a lot of work into it, and those are my idea of the market prices for similar things. Like I said though, I would figure out material costs and how long it takes to make each poured mask and then figure a price.
